The Northern Lights Advisory Board, or NLAB, is a collection of student of leaders who have been selected to serve as the voice of the Northern Lights region and represent their home chapters. Northern Lights SADD has become recognized as one of the strongest and most innovative SADD networks in the nation, consistently producing passionate and capable youth leaders. Our core issues include underage drinking, tobacco and other drug use, traffic safety, suicide, violence, and more. Known initially as Students Against Driving Drunk, SADD expanded its mission and changed its name in 1997 to Students Against Destructive Decisions. SADD was formed in the Boston, MA area in 1981. Using 40 years of expertise to facilitate educational and engaging programming, SADD operates through school and community chapters (like student clubs) dedicated to advocating healthy decision-making. The mission statement of NLYS is “to lead in the development and support of positive youth development,” and its vision is “youth realizing their potential”.Īlthough the NL SADD program remains at its core, NLYS will continue to strategically add programming and services to support its mission and the young people of our region, and to create a supportive environment for them in our schools, communities, and region. Students Against Destructive Decisions is a national non-profit dedicated to the safety and wellness of all students. NLYS was formed in 2003 with the primary task of providing oversight to the Northern Lights SADD program, but its mission goes further than that. An Alcohol Tax (or Alcohol Tax Petition) is a citizen-initiated state statute that would have amended the North Dakota Century Code sections 5-03-07 and 5-03-08 and add a new section to chapter 50-06 increasing the tax on the wholesale price of beer, requiring the additional tax to be depositied in a fund designed as the responsible choices fun, and establishing a responsible choices commission to provide public education related to the consumption and abuse of alcoholic beverages.
